Ptosis

Ptosis repair is a functional or cosmetic surgery that lifts the eyelids by tightening the eyelid muscles.

With age, the muscles of the eyelid can stretch out, causing the eyelid to droop. Severely drooping eyelids reduce side vision (peripheral vision), impacting activities of daily life. Ptosis surgery can be performed from the outside or inside of the eyelid, depending on the specific patient. Ptosis repair can improve peripheral vision while also making the eyes look more awake and rejuvenated.

Dr. Neems enjoys working with her patients to create a customized surgical plan, tailored to each patient’s specific concerns

Why it’s done

Ptosis repair might be an option for:

  • Sagging or drooping upper eyelids
  • Sagging or drooping upper eyelids that partially blocks peripheral vision

Ptosis repair can be done at the same time as another procedure, such as a brow lift and blepharoplasty.

Insurance coverage might depend on whether the surgery repairs a condition that impedes vision.
