Meet Our Doctors
Our ophthalmologists are specially trained in the clinical care and surgical procedures for cataracts, glaucoma, and dry eye disease. Collectively, our eye surgeons have performed over 40,000 cataract procedures and 3,000 glaucoma surgeries. Tucson Eye Care is committed to integrating the latest technology into our practice to provide compassionate, state-of-the-art eye care to our patients. Our ophthalmologists are: Dr. Laurence Kaye, Dr. Robert Snyder, Dr. Emily Wright, Dr. Leslie Neems, Dr. Emily Ross and Dr. Xuemin Zhang and our optometrists are Dr. Rand Siekert and Dr. Gabe Zelaya.
We would like to welcome Dr. Leslie Neems and Dr. Emily Ross to our practice. Dr. Neems specializes in oculoplastics and Dr. Ross specializes in the management of glaucoma.
Dr. Laurence Kaye
Dr. Laurence Kaye specializes in glaucoma and refractive cataract surgery. He has provided care in Tucson since 1996. Dr. Kaye is currently an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Kaye was awarded “The Best Doctors in America” by his peers every year since 2008. He has an interest in third world cataract surgery and has been involved in trips to Peru and Mexico to perform cataract surgery.
Dr. Laurence Kaye is married, has three children, and enjoys an active outdoor life. He is committed to his private practice, Tucson Eye Care, where he provides state of the art care in a personalized, professional environment.

Dr. Robert Snyder
Dr. Robert Snyder joined Tucson Eye Care in 2015. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained eye surgeon with expertise in modern cataract surgery. Since 1998, Dr. Snyder has been recognized as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and as one of the “Best Docs” in Tucson, AZ. For his work he has received numerous awards for the prevention of eye diseases. Including the Lions distinguished “Humanitarian of the Year” award from the state of Arizona.
Active in research, Dr. Snyder has been funded by the NIH, has over 75 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts, and 2 patents. He is currently a tenured Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona, where he previously served as the Head of their Department of Ophthalmology for 14 years.
Dr. Emily Wright
Dr. Emily Wright joins Tucson Eye Care as a glaucoma fellowship-trained, anterior segment surgeon. She specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, and cataract surgery. An east-coast native, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania, where she played varsity basketball for four years.
Dr. Wright obtained her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. Her strong clinical and surgical foundation was established during her residency training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. She then went on to complete a glaucoma fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is also an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Leslie Neems
Dr. Neems is a board certified oculoplastic surgeon and a fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). She received her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis and then completed her ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University. Following residency, she completed a two year fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Colorado. She then remained in Denver as an Oculoplastic Surgeon with Kaiser Permanente prior to moving to Tucson.

As an oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Neems focuses on surgical treatment of the eyebrows, eyelids, orbit, lacrimal system, and midface. She has a special interest in cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery as well as reconstructive surgery following both trauma and skin cancer removal. Dr. Neems was drawn to her specialty because of the wide breadth of pathology she encounters daily. She enjoys establishing a meaningful relationship with her patients and working as a team to come up with a customized treatment plan.
She is really excited to be in Tucson, especially in the winter time. Outside of work she enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with family. She has a three year old son, so napping is a recent favorite past time.
Dr. Emily Ross
Dr. Emily Ross is a board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma surgeon from Ohio State University. She specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts. She graduated from Colorado College cum laude where she played Division I women’s soccer. Born and raised in Indiana, she returned to the Midwest for her medical training where she attended Indiana University School of Medicine for both medical school and her ophthalmology residency. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and Women in Ophthalmology.
In her free time, Dr. Ross enjoys swimming, hiking, and spending time with her family. She looks forward to exploring the outdoors in Tucson with her husband and two daughters.
Dr. Xuemin (Rosie) Zhang
Dr. Xuemin (Rosie) Zhang is a board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cataract, cornea and refractive surgeon. She received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed residency training at the University of Maryland Medical Center where she served as chief resident. She then completed a subspecialty fellowship in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, consistently ranked the #1 eye hospital by U.S. News and World Report. Following fellowship, Dr. Zhang joined the University of Arizona faculty as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. She highly values the patient-doctor relationship. She is committed to providing excellent and personalized eye care to her patients.

Dr. Rand Siekert
Dr Rand Siekert joined Tucson Eye Care in January 2020. Prior to this, he was at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Arizona for 23 ½ years as an assistant clinical professor of Ophthalmology. He was involved with patient care, resident teaching and research. From 1991 to 1996 Dr Siekert was clinical faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Dr. Siekert is a member of the Arizona Optometric Association, served on the board and is a past president of the State Association. He also is a member of the American Optometric Association and has served as a board member and president to the Regional-Great Western Council of Optometry.
As part of the Tucson Eye Care team, Dr. Siekert is involved with the diagnosis and management of a range of ocular conditions including diabetes, cataracts, and glaucoma. He assists the surgeons in the pre- and post-operative care of patient’s eye surgery.
In his personal time Dr Siekert and his wife Linda enjoy running their Basenji dogs in competitive agility. He also enjoys camping and hiking national and state parks with his college colleagues.
Dr. Gabriel Zelaya
Gabriel Zelaya, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University in 2021 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiology, with a double minor in biochemistry and psychology, from the University of Arizona. Dr. Zelaya received extensive training at the Lexington VA Medical Center specializing in treating and managing various ocular diseases, including macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Dr. Zelaya also trained at a surgical center in Denver which specialized in managing pre- and post-operative care for refractive and cataract surgeries.
In his time away from the office, Dr. Zelaya loves spending time with his beautiful wife and children. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys cooking, golfing and watching all sports events for the University of Arizona.
